Mr. Suranjit Sengupta, MP

Hon’ble Member of the Parliament, our senior politician Mr. Suranjit Sengupta hardly needs any introduction. He has been a part and parcel Bangladesh’s politics since independence. Presently Mr. Sengupta is the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs. He is the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and a member of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Land.

A distinguished parliamentarian Mr. Sengupta was born in Sylhet in 1945. He is a senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Mr. Sengupta was first elected in the historic 1970 elections that gave the last push to Bangladesh's independence struggle. He was one of the Members who drafted the country’s Constitution in 1972. He was also a sub-sector commander in the War of Liberation.

Mr. Sengupta has the record of being elected to the parliament for five consecutive terms. He is a member of The Presidium of the Awami League. A widely traveled person Mr. Sengupta has led parliamentary delegations to Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Namibia, Nepal, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Egypt, Belgium and Russia.  

 

Mr. Magdy Martinez Soliman

Mr. Magdy Martinez Soliman is the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) international parliamentary expert working in the project named “Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy” in Bangladesh, funded by the UNDP. Born in 1961 Mr. Martinez Soliman is a Spanish national with years of experience in Parliamentary and Administrative Affairs having occupied important positions both at home and abroad. He is also well versed in criminal and humanitarian law, having been legal Counselor of the International Red Cross. He has a Master in Maritime and International Law by the London Polytechnic University.

As lawyer and barrister professionally, Mr. Martinez Soliman teaches international law in his University in Spain. He has held such distinguished positions as Secretary of State for Youth in the Spanish Government. He was also the spokesman of the government in Parliament. He has lived in Spain, Egypt, Austria and Belgium.

As a United Nations expert Mr. Martinez Soliman has contributed to the Governance UNDP-UNESCO Project in Togo (West Africa), assisted the UNDP Ombudsman Project in Burkina Faso and also participated in the UNDP post -war reconstruction programme of Burundi in the Great Lakes Region.
