Sheikh Razzaque Ali, MP

Shaikh Razzaque Ali is a former Speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad. Before that he was the Minister of State for Law and Parliamentary Affairs in the BNP government in 1991. Basically a teacher of law, Shaikh Razzaque Ali also has a thriving legal practice. Born in 1928 in Khulna, he did his Masters in Economics and took the Law degree in 1952. He worked for a brief period as the Chief Staff Reporter of the former Pakistan Observer.  Thereafter, he joined the Khulna Bar.  In 1954 he obtained another Masters degree, this time in Bengali Literature.

Shaikh Razzaque Ali was both President and Secretary of the Khulna Bar Association. He was Principal of the Khulna Law College and a founder member of the Sunderban Degree College and Paikgacha College. He joined politics in 1959 and was a member of the National Executive Committee of NAP (Bhashani).  He has been elected to the Parliament four times. Shaikh Razzaque Ali worked as Vice- President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union for five years and was elected a member of the CPA Executive Committee of Asia Region.

He is a member of the National Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He is a founder member of the Party. Presently an advocate of the Supreme Court, Shaikh Razzaque Ali has visited more than 30 countries and has led many Parliamentary Delegations.


 

Mr. Rahmat Ali, MP

Advocate Rahmat Ali has been a Member of Parliament since 1991. He was inducted into politics from his early years in college as a member of Awami League’s Student Wing, the Bangladesh Chatra League. He was also the former President of the Bangladesh Krishak League.

He was a freedom fighter during our Liberation War. He is the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs and is a member of the Rules of Procedure Committee of the Bangladesh Parliament as well as of the Public Administration Reforms Commission.

One of his most notable achievements in recent years, as the Chairman of the Local Government Commission, has been the formulation of the organisation, structure and procedures of the Upazila and Union Parishads, where, apart from other novel ideas, very effective and innovative steps towards empowerment of women in the Upazilla and Union levels have been taken. Mr. Rahmat Ali is married and has three children.
