K.M. Abdus Salam, Secretary to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, has taken over the charge of the Secretary, Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat on 28 July, 2021. Prior to that he discharged his duties with a distinguished civil service career spanning over 32 years during which he held various high level positions of the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He joined Bangladesh Civil Service as a member of Administration cadre in 1989.

Immediately before taking the current charge, he worked as the Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment. He was the Director General, NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister's Office. Before that, he served as the Managing Director, Hotels International Limited, Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. Apart from this, he served as the Member (Additional Secretary), Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources.

Mr. Salam held several other important positions in the field Administration, such as Assistant Commissioner & Magistrate of the First class, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Secretary of Rajshahi City Corporation, etc.  

Mr. Salam obtained BSS (Hons) and Masters in International Relations from University of Dhaka. He successfully completed French Language Course from the Language Institute of Dhaka University. He had higher training program on Managing at the Top from University of Bradford, UK.

During his service tenure he visited Australia, Italy, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Monaco and United Kingdom as part of his professional training & exposure visit. International Relations is his area of special interest. He has expertise in leadership, supervision, management and administrative matters.
